Day 33, Summer in Asia, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Today can only be described as the day of silver and gold wats. The silver one, Wat Srisuphan, was one block from our hotel. It doesn’t seem to be one of the more heavily visited wats, which baffles me. I’ve never seen anything like it! Perhaps it isn’t as popular because more than half of the population is forbidden to enter it. That does put a bit of a damper on things for most of our family. But men and cats are allowed to enter.

Silver plate craftsman.

The silver plates told a story around the entire temple. There were countries and cities from all over the world represented. We found one for Toronto.

Next, we walked over to the famous gold Phra Singh Temple.

My favorite part of the day was watching monks go about their normal day, like walking through crazy gold structures.

Buying some new robes at the monk bazaar.

Waiting for the monk bus.

Being late to your monk meeting.

Being a woman monk, hardcore barefoot.

We stopped for a very authentic lunch at The Buri, and tried some new Thai food and drinks.

This is butterfly pea tea, although I was assured no real butterflies were harmed in the making of this drink.

They gave us these slushies gratis so we could try durian, a fruit we’d never tried before. This is one of the last fruits on kier’s fruit bucket list.
