Only problem with dormitory style sleeping is that we had three people who snore in our group. At 5:30 I decided it was silly to lie awake in bed when the lake was calling. Actually felt like I had more than 2 1/2 hours of sleep, wasn’t so bad. I went down to the dock and listened to my ipod and read. The fishermen were already busy at it in their one-man wooden boats.
Around 9 or so people were up having breakfast. Great lively group. The musicians were swapping stories, a different world there. Often not the easiest way to make a living.
We had to get back at a reasonable hour because the fund-raiser was tonight. The fund-raiser is for the play, since it is based in the community and needs money to make sets, buy costumes, etc.
We took another private boat back. A couple of us went straight to visit a little baby. He had received an operation on Tuesday to fix his cleft pallet/hair lip. This couple came from Honduras to get this operation done for their son, because it was funded by The Porch. Otherwise they never would have been able to afford it. This particular baby also needed most of his nose reconstructed. The operation took four hours. We’ve been to visit him quite a few times before, so it was exciting to see him post-operation. He is now sporting a brand new cute little baby nose. We made a big fuss over him, like we always do.
After that I went home and got the girls ready for the evening. I went back to the Porch to help set up tables for the evening. Part of the program was a fashion show, costumes from past shows, then a raffle and ending with the band.
At around 5:30 Happy Hour started, then the meal started around 6:30 ish. As I was looking around the room I realized how many people I’ve gotten to know here, pretty impressive.
The meal was delicious even though both Cali and Madi didn’t eat theirs and I was too full to eat mine after I ate both all three of our salads. But I knew that would happen and brought a plastic container to take food home in.
The fashion show was entertaining. Madi wasn’t feeling well, has a bit of a cold. I offered to take her home right after the fashion show, but she was determined to stay until the place closed down. Says she isn’t allowed to go to places like PanaRock, so this is her only chance to go out on a Saturday night with the adults. That’s true. Even though she ended up sleeping on the couch in The Porch, she felt she was part of it in some way. Cali, on the other hand, was the life of the party. She was dancing nonstop from the moment the band started playing. Then she was playing pool with the volunteer guy, playing for red drinks (fruit punch). She was up until we went home which was after midnight. She is a very creative dancer. Kier then went to PanaRock with the group.
