In Search of a Baby Blue Gorilla and Cold Meds

My goal for the day was to get drugs for my cold. That’s all. After Spanish class I went to the pharmacy and got some. Oh yeah. Both the person I spoke to and the package said to take two tablets. I took two, but honestly they didn’t seem to make any difference. Actually that’s not accurate. They made me incredibly dizzy and light-headed that I was scared to take them again. I was afraid I’d pass out. Brought back memories of being pregnant.

My new goal was to get Cali off the tuk tuk and get back to the couch without passing out.

I stopped by the house site where they were building, and I wished I could be, too. That was before I was feeling so light-headed. They were working on the one wall. At the time I thought I might make it back to help in the afternoon to help raise the wall, but that didn’t happen.

Both Madi and Kier had a dance practice for the play that went from 5-7pm Then after that Kier had her regular salsa class for another 2 hours. She was pretty excited to be dancing for 4 hours. They do their practicing in one of the bar, off hours. I know, a bit unconventional, but they just don’t have that many options here. After salsa practice Kier hung out with her friends for another hour and a half. Everything is so out in the open downtown. She and her friends just sat at the bar talking after they were finished dancing, then she tuked it home. I understand why she likes that kind of freedom.

Cali desperately wanted to have a small stuffed animal from the dollar store. She and her friend had agreed at school that they would go to the store tonight, buy them and bring them to school tomorrow. The only glitch with this plan was that I wasn’t feeling well enough to walk or ride my bike into town with her to do that for her. Instead Madi and Kier, when they were in town for the dance practice, looked for the baby blue gorilla that says te amo on the belly, but couldn’t find it.

For me the day was pretty much a write off, the cold hit me that hard. I mostly spent the day on the couch. Cali did her best to take care of me. She wanted to bring me drinks, offered to make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and tried to overlook the fact that I wasn’t well enough to go to the store to buy her the stuftie. She cried herself to sleep once Madi got home and reported there were no gorillas at the store, while I tried to live with my sinus headache while listening to Cali cry and the church’s nightly oompa oompa music playing in the background. Not the best evening for either of us.
