Tropical living has many perks, one of them being the easy access to sun-ripened fruit and veggies year round. Does this mean that you will buy more than what your bicycle basket will hold, creating a rather unbalanced ride home? Probably. Will you find unfamiliar fruit which will take a skillful machete wielding food-engineer to open? Likely. Will you may buy too many ripe mangoes and gorge on them as a family while the juices drip down your arms into the sink and will you end up calling it supper? Absolutely.

Inside there are mountains of fruit and a curtains of hanging pineapples. With so many enticing choices, it’s easy to buy more than you can possibly eat in a few days. We forego the other food groups and say yes to that challenge.

The weekly market in Jaco is held on Friday. Among the fruit you will also have artisan cheeses, hot stacks of tortillas for sale, and Mennonites selling baked goods and other cutely packaged items.
