Day 103
Paul grew up going to their family cottage on Chesley Lake and so have our girls. A trip to Canada isn’t complete unless we go to the cottage.
Cottage time means hanging out with the grandparents and enjoying meals around the big round table that Grandpa made. Everyone enjoys a few of Grandma’s specialties like her family famous potato salad and Aunt Fanny Squares.
Most evenings are spent around the campfire.
We also go to Sauble Beach, admire Grandma’s flowers, and I take pictures of the girls on the back road by the cottage. It’s a quiet, relaxed, internet-free. The cottage is surrounded and half suspended into the trees, so it always feels like you’re living in a treehouse.
Cali’s friend always comes up to the cottage every summer, and now that she also has one, Cali goes to hers. This summer they celebrated their ten year friend-iversary. They have their little cottage routines, they go fishing or paddleboating, they visit the tuck shop for candy and ice cream, hunt for golf balls, hang out at the playground. In the evenings they make campfires, roast marshmallows, hunt for crayfish, then stay up late talking and giggling in the loft. It’s amazing what kids can find to do when the internet-free zone.
Thanks for the memories Chesley Lake. We’ll see you next summer.
