Day 232, Patong, Thailand
We’ve been to our fair share of beaches, this ranks in the top five. Perhaps because of the little flood that was in our apartment, Lars, the owner, offered to take us to a secluded beach about a half an hour away. We happily agreed.
The road to the beach winded through the mountains. We parked on the road and walked down to the beach, which was hidden from the main road. You must need to be in with a local to find out where this place is. For a couple bucks you could get an umbrella and a pair of mattresses to throw your towel on. What a beautiful little cove, and the sand was powder. There was volleyball and soccer, massages in the shade of the trees or in little tents, one sailboat anchored a short distance from shore. People were relaxed.
Cali on the bluff.
Paul got a couple of snorkels and Cali was gone for the rest of the day. Madi and Paul took turns snorkeling with her.
These next pictures Cali took underwater.
Cali researched the things she saw in the ocean and came up with this list: a Lionfish, starfish, Moorish Idol, Domino Damsel, Emperor Angelfish, a black Sea Urchin Granuloma, a red and a green Parrotfish, crabs, Yellow Tang, Coral Shrimpfish, Fivelined Cardinalfish, Angelfish, Naso Tang, Striped Larg-Eye Bream, Butterflyfish, Grey Angelfish, Surgeonfish, Sergeant Major, many pinkish Brisingida starfish, various other sunfish, She was so happy, and didn’t want to come in. But they were getting hungry and the sun was going down. We got some fries, and watched the sun set. Beautiful. I’ve never seen a sun set with a lavender sky over turquoise waters.
On the way home Paul and Madi rode in the back of the pickup, Cali and I in the front. We didn’t think it was that eventful, but they were having a different experience in the back, with the speed, sharp turns, steep slopes. They had the time of their lives back there.
We finished the day with great Italian food under the open sky. We were all tired from the day, but no one was sunburned. That made me the happiest of all.
