Day 259, Sydney, Australia
We headed for Taronga Zoo, which is a short ferry ride from the Circular Quay train stop.
Paul left an hour earlier to return his bike and meet us at the wharf. We only got on one wrong train, but self-corrected at the next stop.
Sydney Harbour is beautiful. The wharf is bustling with commuters and visitors. The ferry ride to the zoo was perfect since we went between the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The girls both commented that they thought it would be bigger. It’s not that it wasn’t big or majestic enough, but certain landmarks you hear about your entire life, and are often different when you see them in reality.
The zoo was beautifully laid out, the habitats for the animals were some of the best we’ve seen. We are glad we got our fix of kangaroos and koalas in Bisbane, since you have to sign up and pay a special fee to see the Koalas at all. Points deducted. For kangaroos and koalas, the Brisbane experience was superior. There were the smallest breed of penguins which are native to Australia. They are adorable. We call them pocket penguins.
Best sealion show we’ve seen. The backdrop to the Birds of Prey show was this spectacular scene.
After the zoo we took the ferry back and had lunch on the wharf between where you catch the ferries and the Sydney Opera House. School had just let out for the day and we had fun looking at the various school uniforms. They all seem to have a British influence, very different from the uniforms in South Florida which are often a golf shirt with a logo.
That night we packed because tomorrow it’s off to Bali.
