Day 312, Cannes, France
Cannes is just a few hours drive from Uzes. Every time I see the Mediterranean it’s an event. Not sure there is a non-oceanic body of water anywhere else in the world which is surrounded by many fabulous places as the Med. Cannes is one of them. We came to Cannes and Nice during our first visit to Europe in 2007. It’s where our oldest first saw rows and rows of ginormous yachts and decided that the boating life was the life for her. Here’s the lavender sunset we were treated to on our arrival.
Our apartment is a colorful, eclectically decorated one, perhaps owned by an artist. There is lots of space creatively used, plants, art, and an outrageous amount of natural light. It’s one of those places that you think, if only this place were mine, the things I could do with it. But then again, I feel that way about most of the places we visit. I try to restrain myself from at least moving the furniture around.
We chose this 3-bedroom because it looked fun and is in the heart of Cannes, next to the market, the winding alleys of the shopping district, and a block from the water. The bells chime every 15 minutes, and the cats walk across our windowsill at mealtime. The colored block entrance was a good clue that this apartment would be full of color.
The girls’ bathroom has a fun, colorful chandelier. After living in cities where apartments are typically much smaller, having a three bedroom, three bath apartments feels decadent. Funny how perspectives can change so easily. In this bedroom was one of the most colorful carved and painted headboards I’ve seen. Here was the master.
I could do an entire expose on showers, their beauty, effectiveness, how to diagnosis it’s quirks in 30 seconds or less.
Here are the views from our windows.
The table is the biggest and most unique one we’ve had so far. Many of the kitchen’s in Europe don’t have cabinets with doors, but open shelves. In this artsy, relaxed decor, it really works.Cannes has a different feel from Uzes, not as relaxed, and more affluent, with the focus on shopping for higher end goods, not just flowers in a pot.
Like the international film festival, Cannes seems attract hosting events. This evening there was a taping for the show Ninja Warrior, down by the waterfront. Here was some of the elaborate scaffolding used in the taping.
The waterfront area is beautiful, we’ll enjoy spending an extended weekend here.
