Living close to the cruise ports in South Florida has its perks. Stupid cheap last minute sell-offs are a beautiful thing, especially when we can stuff a few things into a bag and have our kids drop us off at the pier. This cruise’s itinerary included Mexico x 2, Belize, Honduras, and Grand Cayman. There is something beautiful about waking up in a different country every day.
We’re no strangers to cruising, but we met a couple who were on their 187th cruise. They said it’s more fun than a nursing home; cheaper, better food, and you don’t have to drive to the casino. Who can argue with that logic? Firsts: Seeing Belize, holding a sloth, snorkeling the famous reef at Roatan, Honduras.
Traveling without kids, even older kids, still feels so decadent. You do exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it. Meanwhile, back at the house, the kids were having their own kind of adventure. The main pipe to the house got clogged under the sidewalk, so the kids had to go to McDonalds and Target to go to the bathroom, and used a lot of dry shampoo. Took the plumbers 3 days to solve the issue, just in time for us to come home. Despite the huge inconvenience, I have to say our kids area amazing at rolling with any situation you throw at them. They’ve lived in brown-outs, black-outs, no water for 3 weeks, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes. They know how to adapt without complaint or pity parties. Travel really helps foster resiliency, reduces entitlement attitudes, and teaches creative problem solving.
We had a fantastic week, and the kids were excited to have us home.
