Feeling Like a Fossil on Takeshita Street

Tokyo

Day 279, Tokyo, Japan

Even on a cold Sunday morning, the dogs and their owners still flood Starbucks in little packs. The Starbucks and doggie picture for the day is below. See if you can find all three doggie noses.

After a coffee, we went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. We didn’t stay long in the first exhibit, due to our limited understanding. The others exhibits required less language knowledge.

This is one of the busiest streets in Tokyo with trendy stores and food stalls. There are lines everywhere whether it’s to get into a smaller, exclusive store, or simply to get a goodie-stuffed crepe. The average age on Takeshita was somewhere between middle school and driver’s permit, putting us in category fossil.

Who knew that exiting from this cute little train station…Tokyowould lead to this…TokyoTokyoThis was the best collection of urban clothing stores we’ve ever seen.

This was my mystery noodle dish of the day. The small red strings were very spicy, and I have no idea what they were.TokyoWe veered out of the shopping and eating zone to see the Togo Shrine.DSC07996TokyoTokyoDespite being a short distance from Takeshita, teen count at the shrine was zero. Also missing, apparently, was an antique fair.TokyoWhich was probably just as well, since there was a very serious wedding happening in the temple, complete with occasional drumming. The red carpet was for this occasion. TokyoWhen I walked up to the offering chest, I heard drumming. TokyoInside a wedding.TokyoFrom this serious, traditional ceremony we returned to the crazy frenzy for hip urban clothing, crepes, and cotton candy–interesting parts of modern day Japan.Tokyo
