Meeting Friends From College, in Paris

Paris

It seems logical, since Paris is the most visited city in the world, that eventually friends could turn up. And that’s just what happened. Good friends of ours from college were celebrating turning 50, and came to Paris for a week. We hadn’t seen them in probably twenty years. I love the magic when years apart vanish with people you’ve known well. We were two of the couples to marry shortly out of college, were in each others’ weddings, and for a number of years would meet to celebrate our anniversaries together. Perhaps it’s because of the time period in which we knew each other well, as young idealistic college kids, that even now there are no forbidden subject areas to avoid, all is fair game. We effortlessly move through politics, religion, family stuff. Everyone just looks a little wiser, but the smiles, laughs, and the way you relate are the same. We caught up about jobs, no jobs, and of course our girls, all five of them. We drank coffee, ate in cute restaurants, did a little sight-seeing, visited in each other’s apartments, walked the beautiful streets of Paris at night. Great visit. Thanks Cindy and Phil. Thanks Paris for making it extra memorable.
