Siesta Key

Friday the hurricane was making its way up the coast, well past our home. The kids slept in while the earlier-rising adults went for coffee and bagels at Einsteins. Later we all went to Yoders for breakfast. I waitressed at their sister restaurant in Indiana all through my college years. The location is different but the “Amish” menu’s the same. Huge helpings, lots of pie. They patiently listened to my waitressing tales.Sarasota
Next door they had a farmers market. SarasotaSarasota
Since the car was stuffed with electronics and other valuables, we decided on a tiny bag of wee key limes. Yup, that’s all. This photo makes them look huge, but they are the petite.Miami
We drove home. When we got back, there were only a few extra palm leaves in the yard, everything was as we’d left it. The kids swam in the pool and we christened the fire pit Paul made before we went away. Nice to have a four day weekend for everyone. We don’t snow days here, and weather-related days off are rare. We had a relaxing campfire, roasted hotdogs and marshmallows, sat around with no one in a rush to go anywhere. Felt like we were far from home, but were just a few steps from it. The sunset went from a lavender to orange and reminded us all of the one we experienced on Patong Beach in Thailand. I like how memories of our travels pop up everywhere in our more settled lives. Paul summed it up so well, saying there no other people he’d rather be with than the five sitting around the fire with him.MiamiMiamiMiami
