Day 358, Prague, Czech Republic
We arrived in Prague yesterday. The apartment we rented was on the top floor of a building very close to the Vitava river and famous Charles Bridge. Parking is limited, so Paul dropped us off with our bags and went to find a lot to house the car for our visit. When visiting larger cities, that’s usually what we do, leave the car and use public transit.
While we waited for the cleaners to finish in the apartment, we sat in the courtyard where there was a restaurant specializing in macaroni and cheese. We’d ask for it daily, but somehow it was never available. They’d always say, “Tomorrow,” accompanied by a weird knowing smile that tomorrow never comes. They did, however, have the best herb-seasoned fries I’ve ever had. They had fresh herbs on them. The courtyard is the only outdoor space for all the surrounding buildings. There were kids racing around on their scooters, and younger adults gathering at tables, our own little neighborhood courtyard community. The layout of the house is unique, extremely spacious, but all the rooms are in a row. But I can stand in our bedroom, look through the girl’s bedroom, living room and kitchen, and out the other side of the building. It reminds of the castles we’ve been through where the rooms are in a row. There is an art to booking places based on price, photos, and reviews. Sometimes the photos don’t do a place justice, and in other cases, makes the place seem much more luxurious than it actually is. This apartment, while spacious, was sparsely decorated, and looked like it had seen one too many group parties. It was a bit more tired than the photos online portrayed. But still, it was clean, spacious, and in the heart of the city.Thunderstorms were scheduled for the afternoon, but we couldn’t get the girls moving any sooner. around 1pm everyone was ready to explore this famous city. The apartment description didn’t exaggerate, in a fantastic location, a few minutes from the main UNESCO World Heritage site bridge. The Charles bridge was packed of course, with visitors like us, from all over the world. There are bridges and there’s the Charles Bridge. Only photos can explain this architectural masterpiece. The clouds chased us home and we decided to grab some goodies at the mini mart. We got home just before it started hailing. We spent the rest of the day inside eating our goodies and watching the storm from the many windows of our apartment.
