Day 44, Summer in Asia, Bangkok, Thailand
Today’s very cool coffee spot. This is a building that houses all kinds of different work spaces, connected by an atrium that has a coffee shop.
We took a Grab to Wat Pho and the large reclining Buddha. We’d been here on our World Trip, but Kier had not. I was happy it wasn’t a sunny day. Even though the gold doesn’t sparkle as much, it’s easier to get photos.
On our walk to the Imperial Palace, we had to pass through a check point which wasn’t there the last time we were here. We were turning away to leave when a young guard came toward us. He said we could go through by showing our passport. I said I didn’t have our passports on me, so we turned away to leave again. He kept urging us back, no one has one? No. A photo of one? Madi found a photo of hers that she had to use for Gap Medics. They let us through by just showing hers.
Last time at the Grand Palace you could cover up your shoulders and legs right before you went in. This time, they wanted you to do it at the gate. There is a small entrance you walk through. The guy used a megaphone next to our heads to say we needed to cover up, which we did. He didn’t use the megaphone for others, because there really is no need. I guess we got special treatment. Kier was wearing shorts all day, and put her elephant pants on top whenever we went into a temple or palace. The guy with a megaphone loved disappointing tourists, telling them that they can’t go in. When he saw Kier’s back up pants he almost looked disappointed himself.
Since there was only twenty minutes until closing, and one of the girls wasn’t feeling the best, we waited at the Baskin Robbins while Kier went in.
Asiatique is our favorite night market, we’ve been here quite a few times. It’s casual shopping with restaurants on the river. We did the foot fish spa last time we were here. This time I decided to do a half hour neck/shoulder/back massage. I’d pulled a muscle in my shoulder a few days ago and thought it may help. I was so glad I didn’t do the hour. The deep muscle massage on my sore muscles made me grateful I didn’t pay for an hour. After about ten minutes I was ready to tap out. I kept telling myself, you’ve given birth to three kids, two without meds, you can do 20 more minutes of this. It was tough, but my muscles felt better, until the next morning. Maybe I’ll stick to the fish.
