Day 373, Laudun, France
From our bedroom window in St Victor la Coste where we would stay every time we came to Europe, you could look across the valley and see the town of Laudun. Paul would often come to Laudun to have a coffee and I would stay with the girls while they slept in. That was before I drank coffee, of course. We had these walkie talkies that we would use. On clear days we could communicate with those. We would buy groceries in Laudun, visit the Cesar camp. One year we were walking and came upon a full-blown archeological dig at the church. We saw 3000 year old skeletons. The other thing we always did at Laudun, quite accidentally the first time, was find a small Roman aquaduct. It’s the same as the large one at Pond du Gard, but small and easy to access. We would take pictures of the girls in front of this Aquaduct and often use it as our Christmas picture. They would play on the ruins, pick wild blackberries, climb to the top. There’s nothing like an ancient acquaduct playground for small kids to burn off some energy.
