Day 39, Summer in Asia, Vientiane, Laos
Breakfast at the hotel was a combination of typical Laotian foods; noodles, rice, bok choy, little fried blobs of wheat flour, mini bananas, and a circular egg option.
When there isn’t an overabundance of sights to see, you look for ways to entertain yourself. This is easily done with a scooter rental.
Paul motoed around town, taking advantage of the French residue left behind by their colonization, which ended in the 1950s. He was able to drink wine from his some of his favorite Southern French vineyards. He was a happy, happy boy.
Time in Laos was also spent working remotely. Kier is fortunate to have bosses who pay her well to work remotely. But it does require a certain wifi speed, which some hotels don’t offer to all their customers. After a day of us asking when the wifi would be more consistent (instead of saying better or less crappy), the hotel provided us with a separate mobile hotspot that could handle the speed she needed. When she wasn’t working, we’d tap into that and watch Netflix.
Lazy days also gave opportunities to eat in as many French restaurants as we had meals.
