Some Sweet and Savory Southern France

Day 372, Cabrières, France

These past week has been a perfect way to end a long trip of unfamiliar places. Even though this particular town is new to area, the larger area is one of our familiar favorites.

Here was a typical lunch with the local goodies.Cabrières, FranceCabrières, France
Our favorite local bakery.Cabrières, FranceIn Cabrières we’ve been enjoying the fresh food that we find either at the market or the kind that ends up on our doorstep. Our host and his neighbors are so thoughtful. Our host left us some fresh produce and a recipe, translated into English, on how best to prepare it. On another day we gave us one of the famous blue eggs (much bluer that the photo portrays). Another morning there was a knock at the door, and the neighbor brought us the most delicious madeleines we’ve ever had, and fresh preserves to go with them. The madeleines were still warm and filled with local cherries. They were so buttery and warm, a mix of sugar and the tartness of the cherries. I think it would be worth the air fare just to come back for these.Cabrières, FranceCabrières, FranceCabrières, FranceAlso food related, (because that’s the kind of people we are), we will remember having the best strawberries we’ve ever had anytime, anywhere, ever. They were so sweet and the strawberry flavor would explode into your mouth. I don’t know how else to describe them. Daily we go to a small garage where a family told strawberries, cherries, and other produce they had. We would go home and eat them all.
