Day 261, Bali, Indonesia
As far as relaxed pamper days go, for me, this felt like the ultimate. This day, like every day, starts with a chef coming to our villa to make breakfast. You call in your order and a time, and then come and make it for you. I didn’t realize how decadent this feels. If breakfast is being made, it’s usually one of us parents doing it. We never have the luxury of rolling out of bed in our pjs, and having Eggs Benedict, pancakes, bacon, sausages, eggs, toast, juice, tea, waiting for us. They also come and clean up your dishes when you are through, as well as the villa, the yard and pool.
After breakfast while Madi finished a midterm paper and Cali did Biology, Paul and I walked around the town. I got my hair done, it was time. The young woman looked at my hair and told me there were so many colors. I explained that we’d been traveling so different people in different countries have been doing my hair. She asked me what number I was, I had no idea what their number system was. She said she saw 5.3 and 4.7, but she determined I was a 4.3. Works for me. I was the only person in the salon, and she took her time. The best part was this heavenly head massage. There was some kind of religious chanting that came on the radio right as she started massaging my head, which she did for some time. I was so relaxed and lost in the experience, by the time she was done, I had no idea where I was.
Cali was swimming when we returned, and we called room service to get lunch in the villa. The prices in Bali are incredibly reasonable. The menu from the hotel restaurant is extensive and all the food we’ve ordered (with the exception of one sirloin) has been excellent. When the food is so reasonable and good, we could never leave these four walls and live quite nicely. The food also comes quickly, and if you order something like ice cream, they make a special trip back so it doesn’t melt while you are eating your meal.
After lunch the girls and I went over to the spa for a manicure, pedicure, and facial. It was a surprise for them. The spa treatments are all so affordable, you can easily justify the pampering. The experience started with Ginger tea. I’ve never had a mani/pedi where you are lying down relaxed for the entire thing, they just work their way around your appendages. Lastly we got type of specialty facial that uses honey, in some form, and cucumbers. The door to our rooms would quietly slide open, and someone from the kitchen would put a bowl in the room. The cucumbers were very cool, and weren’t just put on our eyes, but our entire face. It was an interesting feeling. Madi was getting some kind of cucumber brain freeze from them.
When we got back from the spa (I’ve always wanted to say that in a casual way), high tea and cakes were waiting for us. It’s a daily service, you need only say when. The cakes had the perfect amount of sweetness and had a little honey on the bottom.
Later we walked to a nearby restaurant that was decorated in a modern style but with white washed wooden slats and bookshelves. There are many international restaurants along the busiest street leading down to the beach. This restaurant offered a lot of french items including Nutella crepes, which pleased Madi. There are people visiting her from everywhere, speaking languages we cannot identify. Part of why I love travel is that we eat all our meals together, three times a day. At supper Cali was telling us about the latest things she learned in Biology.
After we ate we went dress shopping and walked down the busy street of restaurants and shops. We ate at french restaurant with Nutella crepes for Madi.
