Stuffing Penguins and a Loose Tooth Vacation Day

Happy Birthday Tasha!

Cali was complaining a bit last night that her stomach hurt, but this morning she was fine. I sent her off to school, but by 8:30 the school called and said to come and pick her up. This meant I had to skip Spanish class, sigh. When I picked her up from class she said her tooth, the one that is loose, has a pointy edge and was hurting her. I must have given her my, I’m-not-unimpressed look, because she quickly added that her stomach was also hurting.

We managed to catch a ride with our regular tuk tuk driver Jonathan and he dropped us off in town. I grabbed a coffee while she ate her entire lunch. I think she was just hungry again, that was the tummy trouble. We slowly walked home and I bought her a little purse at a vendor that I told her I’d buy her on the weekend. Probably not the best message to send. If you call your mom, she’ll spring you from school and buy you presents. Fact of the matter is we all get more stomach aches when we are down here. They come and go. Madi has been dealing with stomach aches for a number of days now. She thinks we need to get her tested to make sure she hasn’t caught pets.

The rest of the day was spent at home, until the older girls got back from school. Kier had a friend who came over for the whole evening, from right after school and until 9 pm. Most of her friends’ parents own businesses, and keep long hours away from home. I think they get lonely hanging out by themselves with only the computer as a companion.

Madi and I set off to buy a pinata for her teacher’s birthday, which is tomorrow. There is a small party store in town that mainly sells pinatas and pinata stuffing-stuff. We decided on a medium sized one, bought a huge bag of pinata candy, some noise makers, little toys. We also got her teacher a hat. The whole thing came to $20. Gotta love those prices. We tuk tuked it home because it was starting to rain, and my best guess it that a wet pinata is not a happy pinata.

At home we stuffed the head and body with candy, the girls did some homework, it poured rain. Kier’s friend doesn’t live too far from us, so hopefully didn’t get too soaked.

Madi blog: Yesterday we went and got a pinata for my teacher’s birthday. We ended up getting her a blue penguin. Some of the other choices were Winnie the Pooh, a clown, an old lady, Strawberry Shortcake. We figured beating a helpless penguin with a stick is better than beating an old lady with a stick until she hemorages. The penguin has a bowtie and a hairbow, so I can’t figure out if it’s a boy or a girl. We have a stick that is blue that matches the penguin. I made card for my teacher and we have a plan for how I will distract her by showing her my card while they put the pinata in the back room. I’m excited for the party tomorrow. Jan is making brownies and some of the other parents are also sending in some treats. I can’t wait for the party.
