Day 41, Summer in Asia, Train to Bangkok

Woke up excited to meet Madi at the train station and hear about her week with Gap Medics. Amazing what can get packed into a week.

Listening to a gross story from Madi’s hospital internship.

Phitsanulok Train Station

Here was a warning at the station.

Trains are my favorite way of seeing the interior of any country. This six hour ride went mostly through many fields, many of them corn and rice. I never tire of seeing the patchwork of water squares, not something we have at home. Every couple of hours someone comes through to mop the aisle. My favorite part of this trip was the different food vendors passing through the aisles. A number of items I’ve never seen before. Others were fruit, little bread buns with jam spread on top, eggs and rice. They always come and talk to me because they think I’m Thai.

Once in Bangkok we checked into our Airbnb, great apartment looking out over the city, with a rooftop pool.

The fridge is in our bedroom, not the kitchen.

After we settled in, we went to the biggest weekend market in the world Chatuchak. It’s incredibly huge, for sure. We people watched, got a snack, Kier got a bag. There were little juice popsicles being sold, whole salted fish baked on the fire, markets are always an interesting slice of a culture condensed into a few blocks.

Map of the market.

Getting some walk about beers.

Moto parking went on and on.

Paul says the street meat is delish!
